Signs Your Brakes Need Replaced

The most dangerous thing that you are going to do today is to put the key in your car's ignition and drive. There are approximately 1.3 million deaths in the United States each year, which translates to over 3,000 deaths a day. There are many reasons that auto accidents occur, but you do not want to become a statistic. One of the most important things that you can do is ensure that your vehicle is operating properly. One of the most important aspects of your car is the brakes. If you have a problem with your brakes you and those around you could be put in serious danger. Here are a few different signs that your brakes could be going out:

Pulling

If you are driving down the road and you feel your vehicle pull to the left or right-hand side, as you touch your brakes, this may be a sign that the brakes are not adjusted properly or that the brake lines are not at the proper pressure. If you notice either of these signs, don't hesitate to take your car right into the shop because letting these things go unchecked can be very dangerous. Imagine that you are driving down the freeway and have to stop suddenly if your car pulls to one side, you could run into another car.

Vibrations

If you are driving down the road and you feel a vibration when you hit the brake, you are going to want to get your brakes looked at. If you are feeling vibrations it could be that the rotors are either warped or worn out. The vibrations can be very dangerous because it can cause the brakes to skip and cause your vehicle to travel farther than normal once you push the brakes. A mechanic will be able to replace the rotors and you will be back to the road, only you will be much safer.

Noises

You drive your car a great deal, and you know the sounds that your car normally makes. If you are driving and notice strange sounds when you push the brakes, your brakes will have a problem. Some of the more common problems are a rock being stuck in the pads, or other dust being trapped and this will usually cause a screeching sound. If you notice that the sound is more of a grinding sound, it is likely that your pads are worn down and need replacing.
